Running hasn’t always been part of our lives. In fact, there was a time where running was something to fear and to avoid at all costs.
Me and my former running partner, Kate – who has now retired, came to find running through The Race for Life event (read more about that on our blog). Running really has given us both so much more than we ever thought it could.
When we first set out on our running journey, we realised that the groups and clubs local to us in Kettering were not only a step too far fitness wise but we also struggled to find a group that ran late enough for our husbands or partners to walk through the door to take over the child wrangling after a long day at work. We knew there must be people like us pounding the streets solo through the winter and we really wanted to find them!
Eventually after a year of searching for a running group for people like us, we decided to set up our own. SheCan…Run was born!
We’ve gone from strength to strength, with successful beginners courses as well as half marathon, marathon and ultra coaching we strive to help ladies to find confidence and fitness through running. We’re a friendly group with an ever increasing membership (currently we have over 50 members) and a range of abilities with the emphasis on running for fun rather than for speed. We strongly feel that camaraderie and team spirit are the foundation of what makes SheCan… a success and pride ourselves on offering a friendly welcome to anyone who wants to join us.
SheCan…also provides after school running sessions for girls at Brooke Weston Academy. We have loved watching the young adults grow in self belief throughout the course and hope, with their help, we can continue to inspire many more like them.
We work closely with the Training Shed in Market Harborough, who provide a variety of workshops throughout the year. The subjects covered so far have ranged from nutrition (pre-run, during your run and recovery), complementary strength training and injury prevention. We have found these workshops to be invaluable in reaching goals as well as setting new ones.
Since Kate’s retirement, I have continued to ‘run’ She Can…Run on the same principles as when the business was first set up.
SheCan…Run Kettering Ladies is our affiliated ladies only running club. We set up Kettering Ladies so we could offer a more competitive ‘arm’ to SheCan…Run Kettering Ladies is an optional addition to your SheCan…Run course/block and is open to any lady, local to Kettering or not, whether you have joined us on a course or not.
